Take A Trip To the Remarkable Windsor Castle

Windsor Castle is assumed to be the largest inhabited castles around currently & the oldest in continuous occupation (over 900 years). It’s one of the Queen’s three sanctioned homes, and is often beloved to be the Queens favourite. The Royal colours soars above the Round Tower of Windsor Castle at whatever time Queen Elizabeth the 2nd is at the palace - nonetheless, at other occasions, the Union Jack flag flutters in its place.

Samuel Pepys proclaimed Windsor Castle to be “the most romantic castle around.” That was stated in 1666, and the same is true even now.

Windsor Castle Spellbinding History:

The building of Windsor were in the 7th century Saxon settlement of Windlesora, where the present day dwellings of Old Windsor is. The settlement of Windsor is traditionally identified as “New Windsor” - the word “new” being used in a strictly loose sense!

Windsor Castle was at first put together by the illustrious William the Conqueror, following his raid of England in 1066. The original construction was put together from timber with mud defences. Windsor Castle held a clear strategic location on a big mound on top of the River Thames, and was one part of a set of fortresses all around London, with the Tower of London, one whole days ride away, at its centre. The Castle was soon remade in rock, and increased in importance over the following years. More recently Henry II put up the Round Tower & the original stone outer wall. After the English Civil War, the building’s main role became that of a royal residence. Windsor Castle has remained generally unchanged since the start of the nineteenth century, apart from the repair work that followed the awful fire.
