Carbohydrates (Good and Bad)
Some of the unhealthy carbohydrates which are refined sugar carbs are found in foods such as syrups, ice-cream, carbonated soft drinks, cakes, cookies and sweets. Icing or table sugar is one of the most refined sugar carbs. It is important for everyone that they should avoid these refined carbohydrate foods. However, to select a better carbohydrate in the daily diet a person has to replace whole wheat bread instead of regular white bread or even serve extra vegetables, lentils and beans with the main meal.
Carbohydrates usually come in two forms which are sugar and starches. Sugar is found in vegetables, fruits and foods like cakes, soft drinks and sweets. Starches famously known as complex carbohydrates are found in cereals, potatoes and pulses. Some of the foods are the good dietary sources of starches however selected wholegrain, whole meal, whole wheat or brown fiver ranges whenever possible. The whole type of carbohydrates contains whole grain which includes germ and bran as they are rich in high fiber.
Foods that are recommended by nutritionists such as Gillian Mckeith are whole wheat pasta, porridge oats, whole meal bread and whole grain rice which contain fiber rich carbohydrates. Foods that are fiber rich carbohydrates like pulses, rice, pasta etc usually helps in preventing constipation. In the same way fruits and vegetables that are rich in fiber also help in reducing levels of blood cholesterol. Most of the carbohydrates present in fruits and vegetables are classified as sugar however, these are unrefined sugars and are different from non-nutritious carbohydrate sugars found in processed food. Fruits and vegetables that are fresh contain vital micro-nutrients and phyto-chemicals which help against serious diseases such as cancer and heart disease.
